In the Braidese summer the appointment with the opera could not be missing. So here on Saturday 1 August 2020 in the gardens of the Belvedere lookout, the nerve center of the many summer initiatives organized by the Municipality of Bra, the "Rigoletto" will be staged, the famous Verdi opera that for the occasion will see a particular adaptation by the Friends of Savigliano's music. It is in fact an "extract" of the original version, a sort of narrated work which, for reasons of space and distance, will have to do without the orchestra.
Based on Victor Hugo's play "Le Roi s'amuse", the work is centered on the dramatic and original figure of a court jester, Rigoletto. Initially it was subject to Austrian censorship. The same fate had occurred in 1832 to the original drama, blocked by censorship and re-proposed only 50 years after the first. In fact, in Hugo's drama the debauchery of the French court was described in no uncertain terms, with at the center the libertinage of Francis I, king of France. In the work, a compromise was reached to have the action carried out by the court of Mantua, which at that time was no longer in existence, transforming the King of France into the Duke of Mantua.
To play Rigoletto will be the baritone Sergio Bologna. The Spanish soprano Lucia Escribano will be Gilda, the girl coveted by the Duke of Mantua, staged by the tenor Angel Pazos; the bass Giovanni Bartucci will be the assassin Sparafucile, while the mezzo-soprano Drechslerova Dagmar will play his sister Maddalena. The narrative voice will be that of Alfonso De Filippis.
The show will start at 21,30pm. The single ticket costs 8 euros. Reservations required at the Tourism and Events Office on 0172-430185. Tickets can be collected the same evening in the Rocca gardens. (Rb)
