UPDATE: due to the recent legislation on combating the pandemic, Monday appointments at the Civic Library are suspended until new provisions are made.

In the children's room of the Bra Civic Library, every Monday at 17 pm, the magic of the stories contained in the books is revealed even to those who have not yet learned to read. This is thanks to the animated readings of the "Born to read" project, especially reserved for those between 3 and 7 years of age. Admission is free but you must first book at the library office at the telephone number 0172.413049 or by writing to biblioteca@comune.bra.cn.it.

The readings are part of the project "Born to Read - Piedmont"promoted by Piedmont region and realized with the contribution of Compagnia di San Paolo and Bra Savings Foundation.

The project

Love reading through a gesture of love: an adult reading a story. Every child has the right to be protected not only from illness and violence but also from the lack of adequate opportunities for affective and cognitive development. This is the heart of Born to Read. Since 1999, the project has aimed to promote reading aloud to children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years. Recent scientific research shows how reading aloud, with a certain continuity, to preschool children has a positive influence both from the relational point of view (it is an opportunity for a relationship between child and parents), and cognitive (they develop better and language comprehension and reading skills earlier). Furthermore, the habit of reading is consolidated in the child and continues into later ages thanks to the early approach linked to the relationship.

Born to Read is promoted by the alliance between librarians and pediatricians through the following associations: the Cultural Association of Pediatricians - ACP which brings together three thousand Italian pediatricians with exclusively cultural purposes, the Italian Library Association - AIB which associates over four thousand librarians, libraries, documentation centers, information services operating in the various sectors of the profession and the Center for Child Health - ONLUS - CSB, which has as its statutory purposes training, research and solidarity activities for children. The project is active throughout the national territory with about 400 local projects involving 1195 Italian municipalities. Local projects are promoted by librarians, pediatricians, educators, public bodies, cultural and voluntary associations.
