In 2006, the UN, after seven years of work, approved the Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: a fundamental step forward in recognizing the rights of all people, including those with disabilities. The Italian Parliament adopted the document in 2009. On March 21, 2012 the Municipalities of Cuneo, Alba, Bra, Fossano, Savigliano, Mondovì and Saluzzo solemnly committed themselves to implementing the Convention. A symbolic act that constitutes a great step on the cultural and social level. With the VelA-Verso l'Autonomia project, the territory of the province of Cuneo will implement article 19 of the Convention which guarantees “the right of all people with disabilities to live in society with the same freedom of choice as other people”.
