The program "A year with Giovanni Arpino" was concluded with which the Municipality of Bra, in collaboration with the Cassa di Risparmio di Bra Foundation and the Arpino family, celebrated the ninety years since the birth and the thirty since the death of the journalist and writer originally from Pula, but "raised" in Bra.
Several initiatives were put in place to remember Arpino's life and works: in January, May and September guided literary walks were organized that brought numerous visitors along the itineraries that touch the places narrated by the writer in his works. The 18 March 2017 the Municipality of Bra has entitled, with a heartfelt ceremony, the municipal library of Bra to "Giovanni Arpino" in the structure adjacent to the multipurpose center that already bears the name of the writer.
In May. high school students were involved in various workshops on topics related to the Arpinian works and the students of the Mucci professional institute collaborated in setting up a dedicated exhibition. The 2017 edition of the "Children's Book Fair" has chosen as a leitmotif "The Thousand and One Italy" proposing different educational activities for schools and has hosted, as every year, the awards of the literature competition for young people entitled precisely to Arpino.
Space also in the cinema, in the month of June, with a "marathon" of film screenings taken from the novels of Arpino. In October the volume "Bra e dintorni" was published. Walking with Giovanni Arpino "curated by Fabio Bailo that outlines the personal and literary connection of the author with places, people and stories of Braida. Concurrently, the video-documentary by Remo Schellino "Giovanni Arpino, a romantic realist" was presented, a precious portrait of the private Arpino, realized through unpublished interviews with the widow Catterina Brero and her son Tommaso.
At the end of the project, between the 9 and 11 last December, several events dedicated to the writer took place: the presentation of "The Years of Judgment" (reprint of Araba Fenice) and of "L'ultima osteria" (Slow Food) ), a concert, the homage to the tomb inside the monumental cemetery of Bra (just the 10 December 2017, anniversary day of death), and a conference of studies that saw the participation of prestigious speakers such as Giovanni Tesio, Bruno Forty, Darwin Pastorin, Cetta Bernardo, Maria Rosa Masoero. At the end of January 2018 will also be broadcast on Rai 5 a documentary that will tell the relationship between Arpino and Bra based on images and testimonies recorded in recent months by a Rai television crew in the city.
